Qld Raceway fallout could hit V8 teams

Qld Raceway fallout could hit V8 teams

1563527090

V8 Supercars Australia announced on Thursday this year’s round at the Ipswich circuit, just south of Brisbane, had been cancelled after an agreement between them and the racetrack’s administrators could not be reached.

And that decision could yet have a profound impact on almost half the teams in the category, who use the track as a testing location.

Among those teams are competition heavyweights Triple Eight Race Engineering (Craig Lowndes/Jamie Whincup), Ford giants Stone Brothers Racing and Dick Johnson Racing and Russell Ingall’s Paul Morris Motorsport team.

Ingall, the 2005 V8 driver’s champion and a two-time Bathurst 1000 winner, said the potential loss of Queensland Raceway as a practice venue could be devastating to his team.

“The implications of the cancelled round is far more than simply not having a race there,” Ingall told motorsport website SpeedCafe.

“Whether it will still be our test track, I’m not sure. QR is of massive importance to our team. It’s definitely not a good thing.

“If it still does remain our test track, we lose the advantage of having a home round where we test at. It gives the teams that test at Winton a huge advantage.”

Among those teams which test at Winton in Victoria are Holden Racing Team and Ford Performance Racing.

Ingall says using his four permitted test days in Winton was highly unlikely due to the increased costs involved in transporting everything nearly 2000km south.

“It adds a reasonable amount onto the race budget that hasn’t been factored in,” he said.

“There’s a lot of things that haven’t been thought about before the axe has fallen on this.

“The testing factor is one of the biggest things. I don’t think the fall-out of this has been totally realised.”

No replacement round is being sought to fill the gap in the 2010 V8 Supercars calendar, which will now feature 15 events this year.

V8 Supercars has held at least one race at Queensland Raceway since 1999.

Motorsport: Raikkonen leaves F1 for rallying

Motorsport: Raikkonen leaves F1 for rallying

raik_220x147
Kimi Raikkonen is to switch from Formula One to the World Rally Championship for next season. It has long been speculated the 2007 world champion would turn his attention to rallying after leaving Ferrari at the end of the recent F1 campaign.

Raikkonen had hoped to return to McLaren, only for his apparent pay demands to scupper the move, resulting in the Woking-based marque instead signing reigning world champion Jenson Button.

With no other competitive drive on the horizon, Raikkonen’s quest for new challenges means he will compete in 12 of the 13 rounds of the 2010 WRC, the only omission being New Zealand. The Finn will drive for the Citroën Junior Team, joining reigning Junior WRC champion Sébastien Ogier in the Red Bull-backed squad.

“I always wanted to compete in rally, especially in the World Rally Championship at some point,” said Raikkonen, who this year impressed on his rally debut in a WRC event in Finland driving an S2000 Abarth.

“Thanks to Red Bull, I have the opportunity to drive the best car of the series with the Citroën C4. This is a very exciting challenge. I’m really looking forward to testing the car and taking it to the start of the first rally.”

Raikkonen has signed a one-year contract, leaving the door open for a return to F1 in 2011 providing he can claim a competitive drive, adding: “We will see how it goes for the future.”

Raikkonen joins Citroën’s burgeoning stable of drivers that also includes factory stars in six-time world champion Sébastien Loeb and Dani Sordo.

Olivier Quesnel, the team manager, said: “We will continue to count on Sébastien and Dani to defend our world titles in 2010. We will also be prolonging our association with Sébastien Ogier, who showed outstanding potential this year. Last but not least, it is with immense joy that we welcome Kimi Raikkonen. We are very proud he has chosen Citroën.”

Loeb has won the last six world rally titles and Raikkonen will have one of the most competitive cars in the C4.

The team said Raikkonen’s co-driver will be compatriot Kaj Lindstrom, who partnered the now-retired Tommi Makinen to four successive world titles in the 1990s. Ogier will drive the junior team’s other car; Loeb and Sordo will continue to drive for the main Citroen team.

Knaus not close to contract extension

Knaus not close to contract extension

PH2009112502299
Chad Knaus believes he and Jimmie Johnson can continue to add to their championship total for years to come.

But the crew chief first needs a new contract.

Knaus on Wednesday denied an ESPN report that he’s agreed to lead Johnson through 2015, the length of Johnson’s new contract extension with Hendrick Motorsports.

Knaus, who has guided Johnson to four straight titles and 47 victories since 2002, is still working under an extension signed in 2006 that runs through next season.

“We’ve only started very light conversations,” Knaus said. “I don’t have a new contract, and we’ve barely had enough conversation for me to agree to anything.”

Although Knaus said it is his intention to stay with Hendrick Motorsports, “you never know what will happen. There are so many what-ifs.”

Knaus began his NASCAR career with Hendrick in 1993 as an original member of Jeff Gordon’s “Rainbow Warriors” crew. He began as an assistant in the body shop, worked his way into the fabrication department and eventually was put in charge of the body development for Gordon’s car. He was also a tire changer on Gordon’s 1995 and 1997 teams.

Knaus left Hendrick after the 1997 season to try to advance his career, working at Dale Earnhardt Inc. as the car chief for Steve Park, then for Ray Evernham when he left Hendrick to start his own race team. He then spent one season as crew chief for Stacy Compton at Melling Racing.

Knaus returned to Hendrick in 2002 when car owner Rick Hendrick formed Johnson’s new team.

So who will be lead driver if Jenson Button leaves?

So who will be lead driver if Jenson Button leaves?

JENSON_585x350_646260a
When will the takeover happen?

It already has. The team will hit the grid next year as Mercedes Grand Prix.

So will the cars look different?

Yes. In Stuttgart yesterday the talk was of a new generation of the famed “Silver Arrows”. So it looks as if the white, black and yellow livery of the Brawn GP cars has already been scrapped, although a new design has yet to be finalised.

They might end up looking a bit like McLarens?

Good point. It seems that McLaren will still be known as McLaren Mercedes for now, despite the loss of their German partner. The McLaren cars will retain their distinctive silver-with-red livery, so the new Brawns — sorry, the new Mercs — are going to have to come up with something a bit different.

What is the ownership structure of the new team?

Well, Mercedes-Benz now owns 75.1 per cent of Brawn GP. This is made up of 45.1 per cent from Daimler, the Mercedes parent company, and 30 per cent from Daimler’s biggest partner, the Abu Dhabi-based Aabar Investments. The remaining holding — 24.9 per cent — will remain with the present shareholders led by Ross Brawn, the biggest shareholder, and four smaller shareholders, among them Nick Fry, the chief executive.

Will the new Mercedes team be championship contenders next season?

It would be foolish to bet against them at this stage. Even before the takeover, Brawn was sounding confident about his new car for 2010 and now he has the finance in place to pursue a full-on campaign. They should be there or thereabouts, alongside Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari.

Will Jenson Button drive for the new team next year?

The speculation that he may jump ship for McLaren is intensifying but some believe this is a fairly ham-fisted attempt by Button’s management team to try to force more money out of Ross Brawn and that, in the end, Button will shy away from the challenge of Lewis Hamilton and stick with what he knows.

If not Jenson, then who instead?

If Button decides to take the risk against Hamilton, the new team would be led by Nico Rosberg, who is believed to have already signed for 2010. A leading candidate to partner him is Nick Heidfeld, the former BMW Sauber driver.

Who are the losers in all of this?

If Button makes the wrong choice, he could be a big loser. McLaren have lost a big partner and one of only two mass-market car manufacturers left in Formula One (alongside Renault). Although the Woking-based team will still be able to use Mercedes engines until 2015, things will not be quite the same now that the heart of Mercedes will be at the old Brawn.

Allmendinger placed on probation follow DUI arrest

Allmendinger placed on probation follow DUI arrest

PH2009102902910
NASCAR placed driver AJ Allmendinger on probation Thursday following his arrest early in the morning on a charge of drunken driving.

Mooresville police said Allmendinger failed a field sobriety test after he was pulled over.

Late Thursday afternoon, he was placed on probation until the end of the year for actions detrimental to stock car racing.

Allmendinger, who drives the No. 44 for Richard Petty Motorsports, said in a statement he had drinks with dinner on Wednesday and made a mistake by driving afterward.

“I honestly felt fine, but I obviously should have erred more on the side of caution, particularly given what I do for a living,” Allmendinger said. “It was a bad judgment call and I apologize for that.”

Allmendinger registered 0.08 on the breath test, the police report said. Under North Carolina law, that means his license will be automatically suspended for 30 days.

NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said the sanctioning body does not require a valid driver’s license to compete on the circuit. Under the probation, any type of further infraction, on the track or off it, could lead to a more severe punishment.

“I am deeply disappointed this has happened,” team co-owner Richard Petty said. “AJ has accepted full responsibility for his actions and will work to make this right. On behalf of everyone at Richard Petty Motorsports we sincerely apologize to our fans and partners.”

Allmendinger is a major factor in RPM’s long-range plans, and team officials told The Associated Press that Allmendinger was going to be moved into Petty’s famed No. 43 next season. Best Buy is expected to sponsor the car.

It’s not clear how his arrest may affect that relationship. Petty routinely shunned alcohol sponsorship, and refused to allow his teams to participate in NASCAR’s second-tier series when it was sponsored by Busch.

NASCAR Nationwide Series: News & Notes – Memphis Motorsports Park

NASCAR Nationwide Series: News & Notes – Memphis Motorsports Park

Nationwide_Race_at_memphis
There’s No Quit In Bliss

Mike Bliss (No. 11 Ridemakerz Toyota) is not only making the best of what could have been a trying season in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, he is also racking up some style points by doing so.

He’s been in the top 10 in the series points standings throughout the season, but following July’s US Cellular 250 at Iowa Speedway, he was without a full-time ride. At that point, he was sixth in the standings, 14 points out of fifth.

However, that didn’t deter the veteran. In fact, he has more than met his challenge. Since being released from his former team, Bliss has competed with five different organizations in five different cars but still cobbled together starts in the subsequent 10 races, which has kept him in the top 10 in points.

Bliss has run with his current team, CJM Racing, in two of the last four races, placing second in both. He’ll be in the No. 11 this weekend at Memphis Motorsports Park, where he has top-10 finishes in each of his four series races. He’s seventh in the rankings, only nine points behind Steve Wallace (No. 66 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet) for sixth, and 118 behind fifth-place Justin Allgaier (No. 12 Verizon Wireless Dodge). Allgaier is the NASCAR Nationwide Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year standings leader by 18 (226-208) over Brendan Gaughan (No. 62 US Fidelis Chevrolet).

Bliss still has a chance at winning races, too. He won in May at Lowe’s Motor Speedway prior to his release, and was second last month at Dover Motor Speedway as well as last week’s race at LMS driving the No. 11. He has posted a top-10 finish in each of his four starts at Memphis Motorsports Park, and has a Driver Rating of 121.6 at the three-quarter mile track, second best among all drivers.

Memphis Last Stop In 2009 ‘Dash 4 Cash’ Program

There is an excellent chance the winner of Saturday’s Kroger On Track For The Cure 250 will come home with an additional $25,000 on top of his share of the prize money. The last of four races for the popular ‘Dash 4 Cash’ program will take place at Memphis, and competitors will fight to take its bonus for the second time this season.

Saturday’s race marks the final NASCAR Nationwide Series stand-alone race of 2009. A $25,000 bonus has been up for grabs for the winner of one of four stand-alone NASCAR Nationwide Series races this season, granted the winner is a full-time or part-time series-only regular or a full-time double-duty driver. The bonus rolled over to the following race since the winner was not a series-only regular.

In July at Iowa, Brad Keselowski (No. 88 Delphi Chevrolet) became the first driver to take home the bonus, which had ballooned to $75,000 after races at Nashville Superspeedway and Kentucky Speedway were won by Joey Logano. He’s not entered at Memphis.

Still, there are several drivers who could throw a wrench into the plans this last time around. Matt Kenseth (No. 16 CitiFinancial Ford) is making his first start at Memphis since the inaugural series race at the track in 1999, when he finished 21st, while David Reutimann (No. 99 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota) won his first NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Memphis in 2007. In that victory, Reutimann scored a perfect Driver Rating of 150.0. He finished second last season at Memphis.

Deference From The Leader: Memphis Is “Carl’s Track”

He may lead the NASCAR Nationwide Series standings, but Kyle Busch (No. 18 FedEx Toyota) made it known that Memphis is a track at which his closest rival, Carl Edwards (No. 60 Save-A-Lot Ford), excels.

Busch would be correct. Edwards, the 2007 series champion, used Memphis as a springboard in his attempt to capture last year’s title, winning the race from the 34th starting position. It was the second time a Memphis winner has come from outside the top 20 starting positions.

“Next week, we go to one of Carl’s best tracks, which is Memphis,” said Busch, now fourth all-time in NASCAR Nationwide Series wins (28), following his victory last Friday night at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. “I haven’t been there for a while, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Not only are Busch and Edwards, separated by 195 points, battling for the championship trophy, they are also seeking the Elvis Presley trophy, given to the race winner. It will be the final time the track will present the trophy as the mold will be broken following Saturday’s race.

Standing in for Edwards during practice and qualifying will be Auggie Vidovich, while Busch’s substitute will be Casey Atwood. Others sitting in for entered drivers are Trevor Bayne for David Reutimann and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. for Matt Kenseth.

Cassill Returns, New Developmental Talent Debuts At Memphis

Landon Cassill (No. 1 Miccosukee Resort Chevrolet) is back. The 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year will make his 2009 season debut at Memphis Motorsports Park.

Having won rookie honors with five top 10s and one pole position in 16 races last season, Cassill opted to stay as a developmental driver with Hendrick Motorsports for 2009 and has stayed busy despite not racing in NASCAR.

In July, he accompanied four NASCAR teams to England for the Goodwood Festival of Speed and drove the “T-Rex,” the then revolutionary No. 24 chassis that four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon drove to victory in the 1997 NASCAR Sprint All-Star race.

Cassill will not be the only young talent in Saturday’s race. Additionally, Matt DiBenedetto (No. 20 Toyota), who turned 18 in July, will make his first series start at Memphis as part of the Joe Gibbs Racing stable.

“Matt D,” as he is known, put together a solid NASCAR Camping World Series East campaign this season, notching two victories, three pole positions, four top fives and five top 10s in seven starts.

Richard Boswell II (No. 5 RCCA Chevrolet), also will attempt to make his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut. Boswell is a JR Motorsports late model driver who has been with the team for three seasons. He has posted three victories in 58 starts. He must qualify on time.

Another driver, Nick Joanides (No. 31 Chevrolet), is scheduled to debut for Rick Ware Racing. He has championships in the NASCAR Super Late Model and Late Model classes at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, Calif., and finished third in the 2009 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series standings.

IN THE LOOP

Pardon My Rust: Busch Back At Memphis After Five-Year Layoff

Carl Edwards needs to take advantage of this weekend’s race at Memphis if he hopes to make any kind of charge at standings leader Kyle Busch.

Two things must take place for Busch’s 195-point lead to be dramatically slashed. One, Edwards, currently in second, needs to continue past success at the Tennessee short track. Two, Busch needs to show some rust that may have built up after five years away from Memphis.

The last time Busch ran at Memphis was in 2004, where he finished 14th and led 59 laps.

But Edwards has competed at Memphis in each of the last four years, including a win last season. Over that span, Edwards has a Driver Rating of 106.5, an Average Running Position of 11.6, 100 Fastest Laps Run and a Laps in the Top 15 percentage of 72.4%.

As impressive as they are, those numbers probably don’t do Edwards’ success complete justice. He had an uncharacteristic 25th-place finish at Memphis in 2007, and his numbers at that race drag down an otherwise stellar Memphis tenure. In that event, he had a Driver Rating of 68.9 and an Average Running Position of 18.6.

Three other drivers could also help Edwards in thwarting Busch’s path to Victory Lane.

One is Jason Leffler (No. 38 Great Clips Toyota), whose Memphis statistics also are not as impressive as they maybe should be. Overall, Leffler, who’s fourth in the standings, has a Driver Rating of 89.2 and an Average Running Position of 13.2. But his last two Memphis races might tell a more accurate tale. In those events, he averaged a Driver Rating of 108.0 and an Average Running Position of 8.3.

Another is Mike Bliss, who has two runner-up finishes in the No. 11 Toyota that he’ll drive again this weekend. In four Memphis starts, Bliss has an average finish of 5.5. In his two Memphis races since the inception of Loop Data in 2005, Bliss has a Driver Rating of 121.6 and an Average Running Position of 5.3.

Also, watch for Kelly Bires, who will be in the No. 33 Kevin Harvick, Inc. Chevrolet that has two wins this season (both with Kevin Harvick behind the wheel).

Bires has run two races at Memphis, both in the No. 47 JTG Ford. In those two events, Bires had an average finish of 16.0, a Driver Rating of 67.0 and an Average Running Position of 22.7.

This will be Bires’ final race for KHI before he moves on to a full-time series ride with JR Motorsports in 2010.

NNS Etc: Memphis Motorsports Park Edition

* McDowell Leads Tight Battle For 10th

Michael McDowell (No. 96 AT&T Dodge) has quite a cast vying for his 10th-place spot in the standings. The Raybestos rookie is trying to hold off four drivers, all of whom are within 81 points of taking that position away.

Tops are fellow Raybestos rookie Michael Annett (No. 15 Germain Racing Toyota), who is only seven points behind McDowell with four races remaining. Next is Tony Raines (No. 34 Long John Silver’s Chevrolet), who is 12th, 51 points behind Annett.

Joey Logano, with five victories this season, is 13th in points, 12 behind Raines and 70 behind McDowell. Kenny Wallace (No. 28 US Border Patrol Chevrolet) still is lurking back in 14th, 81 points out.

Earnhardt would welcome Patrick in NASCAR

Earnhardt would welcome Patrick in NASCAR

Danica Patrick waits to drive practice laps for the Firestone Indy 300 auto race Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Fla.

Danica Patrick waits to drive practice laps for the Firestone Indy 300 auto race Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Fla.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. says he’d love to see good friend Danica Patrick in NASCAR, but isn’t sure when – or even if – the IndyCar star will make the transition to stock car racing.

Patrick and Kelley Earnhardt, general manager of JR Motorsports, have had preliminary talks about Patrick racing in the Nationwide Series, but Earnhardt Jr. said any discussions were in the “early stages.”

“Right now it’s just Kelley and her having a few phone conversations about it and really haven’t gotten any further about it,” Earnhardt said.

Patrick has reportedly agreed to remain in IndyCar with Andretti Green Racing but hasn’t ruled out running some stock car races in the future. She’s currently fifth in the IndyCar Series standings heading into the season finale at Homestead.

She has repeatedly declined to reveal anything about her plans for 2010 and beyond in recent days, including after IndyCar qualifying at Homestead on Friday. She chided a reporter for asking about her future and immediately walked away.

“It’s interesting to see her interest in NASCAR, it’s interesting for all of us,” Earnhardt said. “If we’re a piece of that, if we play a part in that, we’ll see down the road.”

Earnhardt has little doubt Patrick could successfully make the jump from open-wheel racing to stock cars, saying her competitiveness would be an asset in the series.

“She has high expectations of herself,” he said. “She has a lot of those intangible values. There’s a lot of things around herself when it comes to initiative and will power that you either have it or you don’t have it.

Severe sanctions could await Renault

Severe sanctions could await Renault

Renault face being thrown out of the Formula One world championship if found guilty of causing a crash that helped Fernando Alonso win last year’s Singapore Grand Prix.

ALeqM5isCyEerDvapABX7QKiwH7dKic0JA

Just five days after details emerged of the incidents that unfolded in the sport’s historic first night race last September, the FIA will now sit in judgment on Renault.

An extraordinary meeting of the World Motor Sport Council will take place in Paris on Monday, September 21, with Renault facing charges of being in breach of Article 151c of the International Sporting Code.

Article 151c relates to ‘any fraudulent conduct or act prejudicial to the interests of any competition, or to the interests of motor sport generally’.

The charge is that “the team conspired with its driver, Nelson Piquet Jr, to cause a deliberate crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix with the aim of causing the deployment of the safety car to the advantage of its other driver, Fernando Alonso”.

In this instance the FIA’s powers are wide-ranging, as McLaren found to their cost in 2007 when they were fined £50million for being in breach of the same article in relation to the spygate saga.

Should Renault be punished, it is almost certain the penalty will be severe, especially as deliberately crashing a car puts the lives of not only the driver, but also marshals and spectators at risk.

Alonso would naturally be stripped of his victory, potentially even all his points from last season, which may result in Renault being forced to pay back all their prize money for 2008.

In addition, there is the real prospect of their exclusion from this year’s championship, which in turn may ultimately lead to Renault’s decision to withdraw from the sport altogether.

F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone sounded a warning this week there would be “a lot of trouble” if the allegations are found to be true.

Gemmel stakes claim

Gemmel stakes claim

car

Johnny Gemmell re-staked his claim for the 2009 Sasol Rally Driver’s Championship at the weekend’s Osram Rally held in the mountainous region bordering the Eastern Cape and Lesotho. Gemmell and Zimbabwean co-driver Peter Marsh drove their Castrol Toyota Auris to victory in the fastest rally of the season, with Castrol Toyota team mates Mark Cronje and Robert Paisley making it a clean-sweep for Toyota, finishing second, just 38 seconds behind the winners.

Third was Enzo Kuun and Guy Hodgson in the BP VW Polo, the only bright spot in what turned out to be a poor weekend for the Uitenhage-based squad. BP VW’s title favourites Hergen Fekken and Pierre Arries suffered a puncture in their Polo in the long first Special Stage of the rally, and could only manage seventh overall.

Going into the Osram Rally, the sixth round of the 2009 championship, Fekken and Arries had a 14 point lead over Gemmell and Marsh. This lead has now been slashed to just three points, thanks to fine performances by Cronje in the second-placed Toyota, and the privateer New African Development Toyotas Auris of Japie van Niekerk and Robin Houghton, who finished in sixth place, just two seconds ahead of the Fekken Polo.

This performance by the three highest placed Toyotas secured the manufacturers’ award for Toyota, which also increased its lead in the overall SA rally manufactuers’ championship for 2009

Finishing a fine fourth overall, despite pre-rally doubts about the suitability of their production-based car for this event, was Charl Wilken and Greg Godrich in the Konica-Minolta Sasol Subaru Impreza, who also won the N4 Production Car class. The Impreza lost time on Stage One due to a loose wheel. Just nine seconds behind the Wilken/Godrich car was BP VW’s Jan Habig and Douglas Judd, who were also delayed in the first special stage with power steering failure.

The Toytotas did not escape the first stage unscathed either, as both suffered “nose-dive” damage on landing after the fast “yumps” on the stage, where speeds of up to 185 km/h are the norm.

In the class tussles, Chris de Witt and Dean Redelinghuys took the A7 win in their Team Total Toyota RunX. Mohammed Moosa and Grant Martin took the A6 win in their Team Total Toyota Auris, while the class A5 tussle saw Andre Cleenwerck and Des de Portier in their BP VW CitiGolf pip team mates Gugu Zulu and Carl Peskin. Celebrating a class win and a 2009 championship title was Dave Compton and Pierre Jordaan, who took the N3 Production Car Class for the Sasol Toyota RunX team, and the class championship.

This was the third championship title to be sealed in 2009 and all three of them have gone to Sasol-backed teams. The Sasol-sponsored Wilken/Godrich Subaru had sewn up the N4 championship and the overall production Car championships in the previous round at the VW Rally in Port Elizabeth.

The Osram Rally was the sixth of eight rounds counting towards the 2009 Sasol South African Rally Championship.

Competitors can count their best seven results, and the championship is still wide open. The two remaining rounds are the BP Swartland Rally in the Western Cape on September 18/19, and the Gauteng Toyota Rally on October 23/24.

Results of the 2009 Osram Rally

1. J Gemmell/P Marsh (Castrol Toyota Auris) 1 hr 31 min 47 seconds

2. M Cronje/R Paisley (Catsrol Toyota Auris) + 38 seconds

3. E Kuun/G Hodgson (BP Volkswagen Polo) + 56 seconds

4. C Wilken/ G Godrich (Sasol Konica Minolta Subaru Impreza) + 140 seconds

5. J Habig/D Judd (BP VW Polo) + 147 seconds

6. J van Niekerk/R Houghton (New African Development Toyota RunX) + 158 seconds

7. H Fekken/P Arries (BP Volkswagen Polo) + 160 seconds

8. Jean-Pierre Damseaux/Andre Vermeulen (Team Total Toyota RunX)

9. Theuns Joubert/Hennie Botes (Volkswagen Polo)

10. Fernando Rueda/Cobus Vrey (Team Total Toyota RunX)

Class Winners

S2000: J Gemmell/P Marsh (Toyota Auris)

A7: C de Witt/D Redelinghuys (Toyota RunX)

A6: M Moosa/G Martin (Toyota Auris)

A5: A Cleenwerck/D de Portier (Volkswagen Citi-Golf)
