Let’s be very clear about this.
The stadium is on schedule and has been on schedule for 2009 completion since day 1. Nothing has changed. The roof has been lifted into place, and the steel trusses are now being installed. The stadium will completed close to 80 days ahead of its initial completion date.
The stadium will be handed over to the city on 14 December 2009, six months ahead of kick-off, on par with the hand over of the Olympic stadium in Beijing. All other world cup venues will be completed in 2009 with four venues already complete.
The challenge in terms of deadlines remain with public transport which will be operationally ready March 2010.

Wow, 80 days ahead of schedule. That is brilliant! I went to the site a week or two ago and i was amazed at the progress.
I was under the impression that the stadium had to be ready by the time the Confederations Cup start but obviously that is only for the stadiums involved(not Cape Town).
The transport story seems to be on the move as well. I see that the city has already started with a tramway system that reaches out into the West Coast which is a MUST for the people living in that area!
And to CTGUY: Thanks for the comment, definitely put things into perspective and we look forward to more of your input.
The roads around the stadium are also looking better than a few years ago and as a South African, i am very proud to be a part of this wonderful event.

Yes, things are really happening. The stadium was initially meant to be complete by February 2010.
